New committee elected at the 2026 AGM

At our AGM in September we had 50 members present who elected Jean to continue as chair and David as Vice Chair. There is also a new treasurer, Solveig, a new secretary, Gerry and 2 other new committee members. so we have a full committee for the next 12 months. Full details are in the newsletter.
There is always the need for some succession planning for the longer term so once again we are looking for members to step up and consider shadowing a committee member or just attending a meeting to find out what is involved.

Our East of England regional website carries a regular bulletin of information that can be accessed via the link below. This will tell you what has been going on at various u3a groups across the East of England as well as any updates on some national issues. There is also a list of on line workshops that can be booked to view from your own home. Subjects have included laughter yoga, online safety guidance and history of Lancashire witches. A varied and interesting programme so worth a look.!

In between the main monthly speaker meetings there is a Members’ Afternoon. This is an opportunity for members to get together for tea and a chat but mostly these have a theme or a focus.
The Members’ Afternoon is used to allow either a group or a member to organise the event. Groups can use the time to share or ‘showcase’ their work, examples of recent member's afternoons include an exhibition by the Photography Group and a display of recreated historical nautical clothing by the Pioneer Clothing Group. More light hearted events are a quiz, a beetle drive, indoor games and an archive film show.
Annual events utilise these afternoons for a strawberry tea, a picnic get together, games on the green and the Christmas special usually with entertainment.
New ideas for members' afternoons are always welcome!
